The Writers' Rooms
I’m a founder and former Director of The Writers' Rooms, a literary non-profit corporation focused on providing community-sourced knowledge and a safe environment to writers no matter what their skill, income, gender, race, etc. We have several genre-based/social group Rooms that last two-hours and provide literary lessons, discussion, as well as prompts and writing time. The Writers' Rooms is steadily growing and being invited to special events. We’ve published several anthologies of community work and also hosted Imagine Other Worlds with Authors for multiple years. I’m Concierge of The Violet Realm, our sci-fi/fantasy Room. My favorite part about the organization is helping people find the passion to write again. The Iowa Writers' House
I’m formerly the Communications and Student Relationships Manager of The Iowa Writers' House. Founded by Andrea Wilson, the Iowa Writers' House was a hub of literary activity that operated as a central access point for writers. The house held workshops, lectures, and educational opportunities. We featured the best and the brightest literary talent as instructors, providing jobs and experience for writers who have called Iowa home! Our mission was to extend the Iowa literary legacy and to strengthen community among writers, editors, readers, audiences, and all those who honor the power of words. Sadly, The Iowa Writers’ House had to close its doors due to Covid. To learn more about the Iowa Writers' House, visit http://www.iowawritershouse.org/
RARE Raptor Advocacy Rehabilitation & Education
I’m formerly a volunteer member at RARE, a raptor advocacy and rehabilitation center in Iowa City, Iowa. Due to health issues, I had to step back from my work. I used to help tend to wounded birds (both songbirds and raptors), and provided information at educational sessions that are still hosted around the state. My favorite experience was when I had the opportunity to give fluids to a gorgeous bald eagle. This is an incredible organization with hardworking volunteers.
